It was a great day for the West Potomac Cross-Country Program as the team had the best combined finish across the Gunston District. The Lady Wolverines won the team title and the boys were a close runner-up, along with a combined  11 All-District performances. In the girls race the Lady Wolverines outdistanced runner-up T.C. Williams  by 31 points. Leading the way was senior Claire Barber and junior Bowman Shaughnessy, who moved up  throughout the race to cross the line in 3 rd and 4 th place respectively. Junior captain Lily Penn, junior Ripley Vaughan and senior captain Kaycie O’Boyle kept the team score low by placing 6 th , 7 th and 8 th respectively. Having all scoring runners in the top 10 allowed the team to win with a score of 28 points. Also earning All-District honors was senior Grace Henley (12 th ) and junior Grace Tringali (13 th )! The boys team was led by senior captains Benjamin Weisel’s outstanding performance. Weisel placed 3 rd overall and earned himself a spot on the WP All-Time Burke Lake list. Sophomore David Underwood had a breakthrough race and earned 1 st Team All-District honors by placing 7 th overall and led the way for the strong sophomore class. Sophomore Ethan Payne and Owen Barr placed in the top 15 to earn 2 nd Team All-District honors and classmate Wesley Uhrin was right behind placing 16 th overall. The boys team was a close runner-up, scoring 49 points, which was 4 points behind the winner, Annandale.   Congratulations to all our runners on a great day and thank you to all the parents, teammates and everyone else who came out to cheer on WPXC! Both teams have qualified for Thursday’s Occoquan Region Championships, which will be at Burke Lake. Girls will race at 1:00pm and boys will race at 1:30pm.
